Solana is very close to Split. Was conquered by the Romans from the Illyrians in 78bc. Became a big city with more than 60.000 people. Salona had a well-organized Christian community with a bishop as leader ever since the middle of the 3rd century. In 639 Salona was destroyed by the Slavs.
